We Are Heroes!

(and heroines)

One of the better German bands are Wir Sind Helden. Due to the success of their debut 'Die Reklamation' (The Reclamation), German pop music was 'in' again. Loads of new German bands emerged, e.g. Juli, but most of them aren't half as good as WSH.

Earlier this year, Wir Sind Helden released their second album 'Von Hier An Blind', another huge success.

One of my favourite songs is 'Du Erkennst Mich Nicht Wieder' (You Don't Recognise Me). Here you go. :)

Today

I bought the new Coldplay single today. 'Fix You' is the best song on the album. :) Not sure what I think about the b-sides yet, but they definitely aren't as good as 'Proof'. It should have been on the album really.

Flashback

It has just occured to me that seven years ago today I went to my first music festival. It was the Vans Warped Tour '98, and I was 16. I didn't know most of the bands (except Die Toten Hosen, H-Blockx and maybe Bad Religion), but it was fun. My friend & I stayed there all day, I was being my shy self at first, i.e. I didn't jump around, dance like a maniac like the others. But a few hours later I finally lost myself in the music and I behaved like the rest of the crazy bunch. The only thind I avoided were the stage divers; I was too scared I wouldn't be able to support them. lol
Anyway, it was a great day. Lots of punk and rock'n'roll. A 'rock star' who screamed 'rock'n'roll in several octaves (very flat), the band who did the song for the old Solero ice cream advert, and a good friend beside me. It was quite cold outside, but all the jumping kept us warm. Too warm in fact.
About 2-3 years ago I actually found the that year's Vans Warped Tour CD in a shop that was about to close down. I was a very happy bunny. Favourite track: Pachuco!

Lea Salonga (again, yeah)

I love her, love her, love her.

Lea Salonga - Reflection (from Mulan)

And just so you can see how brilliant she is - here's a very horrible version in bad quality with tv in the background.

Visual Songs

Does it happen to you that certain songs evoke images - or even movies - in you? And I'm not talking images of the artist on stage or anything, I mean proper images and movies that are merely results of your imagination. Probably something nobody else sees when listening to that song. I listen to a lot of music, but not every song has this effect on me.

One song that does this to me is 'I'll Stand By You' by the Pretenders. A bloody good song! I've had it in my head a lot recently. What I see when I listen to this song is somebody (a woman) standing by her man no matter what, and her telling him that she will stay no matter what. They stand next to each other, and it's like the most meaningful gesture ever. The thing is the images are not that positive, it's more like a fight against something overwhelming and menacing, and her gesture is one of insanity in a way because she has to face something awfully big, and she know she will be washed away, but she remains there, no matter what. I guess it would be like two people standing, facing a deadly wave, but it's just a metaphor.

The image is positive in a sense, because he won't face the wave alone, they will be united in their togetherness. No matter what will happen, they will not be alone. In a way, they are stronger than the wave because they won't let go.
The sad thing is that the struggle is hopeless, the wave will come no matter what.

In any case, enjoy the song, only hosted for a limited amount of time. :) And if you feel like it, you can tell me what you see.
